Rey Mysterio endured a humiliating end to Monday’s Raw episode after his mask was removed during a chaotic post-match attack.
The WWE Hall of Famer challenged Penta for the Intercontinental Championship in one of last night’s show featured bouts. Rey Mysterio pushed the champion to the limit and appeared to be on the verge of capturing the title late in the contest.
After countering a Penta Driver attempt into a 619, Mysterio climbed to the top rope looking to finish the match with a Frog Splash. However, Penta got his knees up before connecting with a Mexican Destroyer to score the pinfall victory and retain the championship.
Moments after the match, Rusev and Ethan Page rushed to the ring and attacked both Mysterio and Penta. Dragon Lee quickly joined the fight and briefly evened the odds, but the numerical advantage eventually caught up with him.
With both Rusev and Page targeting the Intercontinental Championship picture, the attack soon became personal. Rusev shocked the crowd by tearing Mysterio’s mask from his face, leaving the legendary luchador exposed in the middle of the ring.
Chad Gable Came Out On WWE Raw To Save Rey Mysterio
The situation changed moments later when Chad Gable made a surprise appearance to a huge ovation from the Paris crowd. Gable stormed the ring and unloaded on the attackers, dropping both men with a series of German suplexes before trapping Page in an Ankle Lock.
Rusev quickly pulled Page from the hold, allowing both men to retreat before further damage could be done.
Following the confrontation, Gable recovered Rey Mysterio’s mask and handed it to Penta and Dragon Lee, who helped shield the Hall of Famer as he put it back on. Once remasked, Mysterio shared a moment of respect with Penta, Dragon Lee and Gable as the segment came to a close.
