Rey Mysterio has reflected on two matches from his career that stand out, offering insight into defining moments across different stages of his journey.
Speaking with Adrian Hernandez on the Unlikely podcast at a WWE community event in Las Vegas ahead of WrestleMania 42, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked to name one match he would place in the Hall of Fame. Rey Mysterio instead highlighted two.
The first was his WrestleMania 21 encounter with Eddie Guerrero in 2005.
“I’m a big fan of Eddie and I, WrestleMania 21, WrestleMania Goes Hollywood,” Mysterio said.
The match, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, opened the show with both men entering as WWE Tag Team Champions. Mysterio secured the win with a hurricanrana pin before the two shared a handshake in the ring.
The bout would prove to be Guerrero’s final WrestleMania appearance before his death later that year. Mysterio has frequently spoken about Guerrero’s influence, later dedicating his 2006 Royal Rumble victory and World Heavyweight Championship reign to him.

Rey Mysterio also pointed to his SummerSlam 2002 match against Kurt Angle as another defining moment.
“I’m also a big fan of my first pay-per-view with WWE, SummerSlam… Kurt Angle versus Rey Mysterio,” he said.
The match marked Mysterio’s first WWE pay-per-view appearance, coming shortly after his debut. Although he was defeated via the ankle lock, the performance established him with WWE audiences.
Both matches remain key moments in Mysterio’s career, reflecting his early impact in WWE and his long-standing connection with Guerrero.
