Rey Mysterio is continuing his recovery after suffering fractured ribs earlier this year.
The injury occurred during a singles match against Austin Theory on the January 26 episode of WWE Raw, which served as the go-home show for the Royal Rumble. Despite the injury, Rey Mysterio still travelled to Saudi Arabia and competed in the men’s Royal Rumble match, though he has not wrestled since.
Speaking during an appearance on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez while attending a WWE community event in Las Vegas ahead of WrestleMania 42, Mysterio provided an update on his recovery.
“Much better than when it actually happened,” Mysterio said. “That injury occurred on January 26, which was the Monday leading into the Rumble. Fractured ribs, both left and right. So those take a little bit of time to heal, but on the way up.”
Rey Mysterio Provided Commentary For AAA Rey De Reyes Recently
Rey Mysterio later travelled to Mexico, where he provided commentary for Rey de Reyes. The main event of the show saw his son, Dominik Mysterio, defeat El Hijo del Vikingo in a No DQ match to retain the AAA Mega Championship.
During the same interview, the WWE Hall of Famer was also asked which match from his career he believes could one day be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a classic.
“I’ll tell you what, I’m a big fan of Eddie and I at WrestleMania 21, WrestleMania Goes Hollywood,” Mysterio said, referencing his match with Eddie Guerrero. “And I’m also a big fan of my first pay-per-view with WWE, SummerSlam 2002, Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio.”
That SummerSlam match against Kurt Angle remains widely regarded as one of the standout bouts of Mysterio’s WWE career.
