Rey Mysterio has announced a cross-promotional tournament featuring stars from Raw, SmackDown and AAA, with the winner earning a World Heavyweight Championship match against Roman Reigns on the September 14 episode of Raw in Mexico City. Mysterio revealed the tournament in his role as AAA General Manager following a backstage conversation with Reigns on this week’s Raw. The tournament begins next Monday, although no participants have been announced. The title match will headline WWE’s return to television in Mexico for the first time in 15 years as part of a week that also includes SmackDown, live events and AAA Triplemanía 34.
WWE producer and Performance Center coach Wesley Blake returned to the ring on Tuesday for his first match in three years, competing in a dark match against Kale Dixon before the NXT taping in Orlando. Blake, who has been part of WWE’s staff since April 2024, last wrestled in 2023 on the independent scene and had not competed in a WWE ring since his release in 2021. Best known for his time in The Forgotten Sons and as one half of the NXT Tag Team Championship-winning team with Buddy Murphy, there is currently no word on whether Blake will wrestle again.
Brie Bella has revealed her SummerSlam match came close to being stopped after she broke her right scapula, but she convinced those around her to let it continue so Nikki Bella could complete the planned finish. Speaking on her YouTube vlog, Brie said she ignored instructions to stay down because she wanted her sister to receive the hot tag, despite being in significant pain. The injury reportedly occurred when Jacy Jayne drove her shoulder into the steel steps during the six-woman tag match. Brie was taken to hospital after the event, but neither she nor WWE has announced a timetable for her return.
