A luchadore in Mexico has been arrested for suspicion of negligent homicide (manslaughter) after the official referring his match died after taking a piledriver.
ABC Noticias reports that Gerardo Germán Pineda, better known as “El Búho”, died after José Ángel “N,” better known as El Hijo de Fishman, piledrove him after a match on October 6th, during an event held at Arena Vanguardia inside the Deportivo 11 de Julio in Mineral de la Reforma, Hidalgo.
El Búho was 75-years-old.
As “El Búho lay motionless emergency officials tried to resuscitate but he was declared deceased. Law enforcement then began their investigation. It is not known if the move itself caused El Búho’s death. El Hijo de Fishman was arrested at the scene.
Hijo de Fishman was facing Máscara Sagrada NG at the time and went on a rampage after losing to him.
Hijo de Fishman is currently in custody for 48 hours as the case is investigated. At that time, he will know if he has been officially charged or not.
The promotion putting on the event, Patrón Espectáculos, issued a statement.
“We deeply regret the loss of a life and express our solidarity with his family, friends and colleagues in the lucha libre community,” they stated.
