Randy Orton has spoken about who he thinks is his all-time greatest opponent.
Randy Orton has named Christian Cage as his favourite opponent, despite having shared the ring with some of WWE’s biggest names. In a 2013 interview with Maxim, Orton reflected on the many high-profile rivals he faced throughout his career, including Triple H, Mick Foley, John Cena and The Undertaker. However, when asked to single out one opponent, Orton pointed to his 2011 rivalry with Christian.
“I have had so many great opponents in WWE,” Orton said. “From Triple H to Mick Foley, to John Cena, to The Undertaker, but I would say that my favourite opponent to compete against is Christian.”
Orton and Christian’s feud in 2011 produced one of the most acclaimed matches of that year, meeting at Over The Limit for the World Heavyweight Championship. The bout received a four and a quarter star rating from Dave Meltzer and is still regarded as a standout example of both men’s in-ring chemistry.
Orton’s praise highlights the lasting impact of their rivalry and the level of storytelling and execution they delivered during their time at the top of the card.
