Powerhouse Hobbs reportedly left AEW on Wednesday night and is expected to join WWE now that his contract has expired.
Fightful Select reported that Powehouse Hobbs wrapped up at the post-Dynamite Collision taping despite months of talks and what was described as a substantial offer to stay. The update came after Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE were “very high” on signing him.
Hobbs closed out his run by defending the AEW Trios titles alongside Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata against “Hangman” Adam Page and JetSpeed.
Barring any late change, the soon-to-be 35-year-old is believed to be WWE-bound as soon as he is contractually eligible, with reports saying he chose to test free agency and left on good terms.
Hobbs debuted for AEW in July 2020, held the Trios titles for nearly 300 days, and enjoyed a short reign as TNT Champion in 2023.
How Long Has Powerhouse Hobbs Been Wrestling?
Powerhouse Hobbs started his pro wrestling career in 2009 at the age of 18, beginning his training at the APW wrestling school in Hayward, California, and made his debut later that year on July 18, at the Gym Wars show under the ring name Will Rood.
Hobbs would continue to work for APW, as well as for various other independent promotions, until 2020, when he was signed by AEW.
