Paul Heyman wants to persuade gamers to choose WWE 2k26 over franchise heavyweights like Fortnite and Call of Duty.
While Paul Heyman is widely credited as a creative genius for his time running ECW, and later as a Head Writer and executive in WWE, his contributions to the WWE video games are perhaps less well-known. The Wise Man has written storylines for the games and is credited on one of the most popular entries in the franchise, WWE 2k13.
In a recent interview with Fightful, Heyman was asked if there were any scenarios he used in the games that originally came from previous ideas. In response, Heyman explained that it wouldn’t happen as he doesn’t want to use the games for his own fantasy booking, instead he considers what could entice gamers to play WWE games over the likes of Fortnite.
“I appreciate the question and I understand where it’s coming from, but if I were to do that, then I’m living my own fantasy within the video game and I don’t know if you are aware of this, I am maybe a couple of weeks, months, maybe even a year or two older than the typical gamer that’s out there today.
“So because of that I try not to play to my own fantasy booking, I try to play to the audience’s fantasy booking, and not just the WWE audience, but the video game audience itself. ‘Cause I would like to steal people from other video game franchises. I like to entice people to not play Fortnite, but to play WWE 2k26. I would like to entice people to not play Call of Duty, but to play WWE 2k26.
“So it’s not just a matter of, ‘Ooh, what would happen if I put Lou Thesz and Bruno Sammartino and Brock Lesnar in a triple threat match together?’ It’s more of, ‘What can appeal to today’s gamer audience? What appeals to that crowd? What can I do to tickle their fancy, to entice their imagination?’ Not just live out my own fantasies that I would have trouble booking for whatever different reason in today’s environment, including Thesz versus Sammartino versus Lesnar.”
Paul Heyman Helped Triple H Launch WWE 2k26 King Of Kings Edition
Paul Heyman has been heavily involved in the promotion of WWE 2k26, and even joined Triple H in a commercial announcing the King of Kings edition of the game. The clip shows Heyman attempting to persuade Triple H to make a version based around The Vision or Brock Lesnar, before finally revealing he had actually organised for the Chief Content Officer himself to be a cover star.
