John Cena gave Oba Femi important advice on how to make himself memorable.
While Oba Femi wasn’t able to face John Cena in the ring before the 17-time World Champion retired in December, The Ruler still got some great advice from the star.
During an appearance on No Contest Wrestling, Femi said the biggest thing Cena explained to him was the importance of interacting with the audience in a way that would make him memorable.
“He’s very big on ‘look at me’ moments. I don’t know if you’ve heard the story with he and at the time Cesaro, where he told Cesaro to go get the [beach] ball that was being thrown around in the audience and pop the ball. But he’s very big on crowd interaction and ‘look at me’ moments.”
When it came to Femi’s time in NXT, that meant going against the developmental brand’s fast pace and taking time to interact with the crowd when he had the opportunity.
“So he was telling me, he told me that he understands that NXT is a very fast-paced style of wrestling because that’s what Shawn [Michaels] wants. But at the same time, he encouraged me to, when the opponent is down, I should always take my time to interact with the crowd and do something that will be memorable to them so they can always remember me.
“So that’s one of the things that John said to me that stuck. That was a pretty big one, amongst many other things, but that was the big takeaway.”
Royal Rumble Face-Off Was A “Teaser” For Oba Femi & Brock Lesnar
During the same interview, Oba Femi addressed his face-off with Brock Lesnar at the 2026 Royal Rumble. According to Femi, the moment was a teaser to find out how the audience would react to the pairing. Now that they know WWE fans are into the idea, Femi says he and Lesnar will “probably have more interaction down the line.”
