Nikki Bella has opened up about the ankle injury that has cast doubt over her status heading into WrestleMania 42.
The WWE Hall of Famer revealed she is still awaiting MRI results to determine the severity of the issue, admitting she has been left frustrated by the setback.
“No, not at all,” Bella said during an appearance on Angie Martinez’s YouTube channel. “I’ve been super bummed out about it, so, as of now, it’s a sprained ankle. We don’t know if it’s a high sprain or something else, so I got an MRI I’m waiting for the results.”
Nikki Bella explained the injury occurred early in a recent tag team match alongside Brie Bella on the March 27, 2026, episode of WWE SmackDown, where The Bella Twins faced Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair.
“In our match on Friday, it was our second tag match back together, and it happened right in the beginning of the match, and I finished the match. I can’t believe I finished the match, and I stressed out my poor sister,” she said.
Bella later described believing the injury could have been more serious during the bout.
“I thought it possibly could be (broken), because I’ve had a break before and the rush that was going through my calf, and I couldn’t put weight on it, I was like, ‘Oh, I think I just broke my ankle.’”
Brie Bella also recalled the moment during the live broadcast, revealing the concern inside the ring.
“It’s my second match back in eight years,” Brie said. “So she tags me, and as I’m about to come in, she goes, ‘Oh, I think I broke my ankle,’ and we’re on live television. I was like, ‘Huh? Do we need to call the match?’”
Nikki Bella Still Advertised For WrestleMania 42 Despite Injury Uncertainty
Despite the injury scare, Nikki Bella completed the match and is currently still advertised for a fatal four-way women’s tag team title match at WrestleMania 42, though her availability remains uncertain pending further medical evaluation.
