A new trademark filing by WWE could possibly hint at the planned outcome of the Gunther vs. AJ Styles career-threatening match at Saturday’s Royal Rumble event.
WWE has filed a new trademark that could hint at a fresh nickname for Gunther. On Monday, WWE submitted an application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the term “Career Killer”, just days before Gunther is set to face AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble in Riyadh. Styles has publicly stated that the bout could mark the end of his in-ring career, adding further weight to the timing of the filing.
The trademark was listed under entertainment services, covering wrestling exhibitions and performances delivered live and through broadcast media, as well as digital content such as websites, newsletters and online publications related to sports entertainment.
While WWE has not confirmed how the phrase will be used, the filing has sparked speculation that “Career Killer” could become part of Gunther’s on-screen presentation.
The nickname would align with recent booking, as Gunther has been portrayed as ending legendary careers. Over the past year, he defeated Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event and later claimed a victory over John Cena at December’s edition of the same event.
With his match against Styles looming and a potential retirement on the line, WWE’s latest trademark move suggests Gunther’s ruthless image could soon be given a new, officially branded edge.
