New tag team champions were crowned on last night’s episode of WWE NXT.
Myles Borne and Tavion Heights captured the WWE NXT Tag Team Championship on this week’s episode of NXT, ending The Vanity Project’s reign in one of the night’s biggest moments. Borne and Heights defeated Ricky Smokes and Brad Baylor in Tuesday’s championship match after outside interference from Jackson Drake and Myka Lockwood backfired. The referee ejected both Drake and Lockwood from ringside, leaving the champions without their allies for the closing stages of the contest.
Moments later, Heights planted Baylor with a belly-to-belly suplex before scoring the decisive pinfall to crown himself and Borne the new WWE NXT Tag Team Champions.
The title opportunity came after Borne defeated Kam Hendrix on last week’s episode of NXT. Under an agreement with Robert Stone, the victory earned Borne and Heights a shot at the championship.
Tensions Continue To Grow Despite Tag Team Success For Myles Borne & Tavion Heights On WWE NXT
The victory comes despite growing tension between the longtime partners. Since returning from his recent absence, Tavion Heights has displayed a more aggressive edge, including attacking Tony D’Angelo and adopting a noticeably different attitude in pursuit of championship success.
Despite the change in demeanour, Heights has remained aligned with Myles Borne. The pair have been teammates since their time together in the No Quarter Catch Crew, although Heights’ determination to capture gold has created occasional friction between the two.
For Borne, the victory adds a second championship to his collection. He remains the reigning NXT North American Champion after defeating Ethan Page to win the title on the February 24 edition of NXT.
