The New Japan Cup was supposed to begin today but fans will have to wait another day to check out the annual tournament.
As the show was set to begin at Korakuen Hall, NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi announced that there would be no wrestling on the show.
Tanahashi explained that a ring post broke and therefore they couldn’t continue with setting up the ring.
NJPW offered to refund the tickets of anyone in attendance and presented a talk show format with the NJPW roster instead.
NJPW announced in a statement:
“Due to a broken ring post tonight’s event in Korakuen Hall has been forced to be canceled. A talk show will take place in place of matches, with tickets to be refunded. NJPW deeply apologizes for the abrupt cancelation of tonight’s event and the disappointment and inconvenience caused.”
The winner of the New Japan Cup usually receives a title shot for the IWGP world title at a future event.
