New details have emerged regarding Sheamus‘ reported departure from WWE, with a new report claiming the veteran rejected a significantly reduced contract offer.
The former WWE Champion is reportedly set to leave the company after the two sides were unable to agree on terms for a new deal, with the situation said to have caused frustration among members of the WWE locker room.
Reports of Sheamus’ exit first surfaced in July 2026, and his profile has since been moved to the Alumni section of WWE.com. According to Sportskeeda, WWE offered the Irish star a restructured contract worth considerably less than his previous agreement.
Sources told the outlet that the proposed deal was “significantly smaller” than Sheamus’ existing contract, ultimately leading to his decision to leave the company.
The report also claims there is growing backstage frustration with TKO’s approach to contract negotiations, particularly after The New Day reportedly turned down a restructured offer just weeks earlier.
“Sheamus is leaving because of the contract situation. It was SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the current one. Sad, sad situation. But as for the reaction backstage, there’s a lot of irritation surrounding it. WWE stars are not happy with the entire contract restructuring that TKO has been doing. They were very unhappy after New Day’s news became public, and it’s safe to say everyone is very annoyed that it happened with Sheamus. Even though he has not been around backstage a lot recently, the guy’s a much-loved wrestler. They really love him a lot and make no sense to not have him here.”
Sheamus’ Near 20-Year Career With WWE
Sheamus signed with WWE in 2007 and went on to enjoy one of the most decorated careers of his generation, winning multiple world championships, the United States Championship, the WWE Tag Team Championship and the Royal Rumble.
In recent years, the 48-year-old had been pursuing the one accolade missing from his resume, the Intercontinental Championship, as he looked to complete WWE’s modern Grand Slam. If the reports prove accurate, that achievement may now go unrealised unless Sheamus returns to the company.
