New details have emerged regarding Asuka’s WWE status as the former Women’s Champion continues her lengthy absence from television.
Asuka has not competed since facing IYO SKY on May 5. After the match, she appeared to bid the crowd farewell, prompting speculation that she could be leaving WWE or ending her wrestling career.
Later reports dismissed those possibilities, revealing that The Empress of Tomorrow stepped away from WWE to deal with a family matter. According to Fightful Select, she remains under contract with WWE and continues to receive her regular pay while away.
WWE Reportedly Had Plans For Asuka Before Absence
WWE reportedly planned to feature Asuka throughout 2026 before her family situation led her to take time away. However, the company had no issue with the former champion returning home to deal with the matter.
There is currently no indication of when she will return to WWE television or resume competing in the ring. The report also states that her absence is unrelated to Kairi Sane’s release from WWE.
Asuka and Sane have a long history together as the Kabuki Warriors, but the timing of their respective absences from WWE is reportedly unrelated. For now, the former four-time WWE Women’s Champion remains under contract with WWE despite being away from television and in-ring competition for several months.
