A title changed hands on last night’s episode of WWE NXT New Year’s Evil.
A new WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion was crowned on Tuesday night, as Izzi Dame defeated Thea Hail to capture the title. The originally scheduled championship match between Hail and Blake Monroe did not take place after Monroe attacked Hail during NXT’s opening moments.
Monroe ambushed Hail at ringside and drove her into the steel steps before striking her repeatedly with a steel chair, forcing security to intervene. Backstage, NXT General Manager Ava confronted Monroe and banned her from the building, ruling her out of the advertised title rematch.
Despite the attack, Hail insisted she would defend the championship and issued an open challenge. Tatum Paxley attempted to answer, but Izzi Dame blindsided Hail before the match could begin and was recognised as the challenger. Dame went on to secure the victory after hitting Dame Over from the turnbuckles, becoming the new Women’s North American Champion.
Monroe’s removal came on the same day reports emerged suggesting she is being considered for a call-up to the main roster. Monroe lost the title to Hail last month following a botched finish and had been pursuing a rematch in recent weeks while expressing frustration over the manner of her loss.
How Long Did Thea Hail Hold The WWE NXT Women’s North American Championship For?
Thea Hail only held the WWE NXT Women’s North American Championship for 21 days after she defeated Blake Monore on the December 16, 2025, episode of NXT in an unplanned title change after Monroe failed to kick out of a pin attempt from Hail.
This unplanned title switch forced WWE to change their creative plans for the Women’s North American Title and necessitated a title match on New Year’s Evil.
