A new champion has been crowned on WWE NXT following a tournament to decide the holder of a recently vacated title.
Lexis King defeated EK Prosper in the final to win the WWE Speed Championship, marking his first title victory in WWE NXT. The match saw Prosper gain momentum late, taking out multiple competitors at ringside, but the turning point came when he re-entered the ring and was met with a superkick from King. King followed up with his Coronation finisher to secure the pinfall and the championship.
The title had been vacated after Elio LeFleur suffered a torn labrum during a house show match, leading to the tournament being organised to crown a new champion. Prosper, who had been encouraged to enter by LeFleur, advanced to the final but fell short against King.
Lexis King Recreates His Father’s Pose After Big WWE NXT Win
Following the win, Lexis King shared a photo on social media recreating a pose made famous by his father, Brian Pillman, after winning the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship. The victory continues King’s recent run of momentum in WWE NXT, where he has aligned himself with the Birthright stable alongside Charlie Dempsey, Uriah Connors, Stacks, and Arianna Grace.
The group recently competed in a tournament to determine the number one contenders for the Tag Team Championships, but were defeated by Los Americanos, making King’s singles title win a notable development for the faction moving forward.
