A top Netflix executive has revealed that more collaborations with WWE are in the works.
On January 5th, WWE marked Raw’s first anniversary on Netflix with a special Stranger Things edition of the red brand. The episode featured a set inspired by the hit show; there were props from the show on display throughout the arena, and the backstage area was even turned into a WWE version of the Upside Down.
On the latest episode of Stephanie McMahon’s ‘What’s Your Story?’ podcast, Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria praised the crossovers between WWE and the streaming giant over the past year, including Seth Rollins‘ appearances on events like Skyscraper Live.
“The WWE partnership has been incredible, and I think what you all have created there, too, which I see when we work with your talent — when Seth [Rollins] comes to our events, or John Cena is in a movie, they really have this, like, community connection.
“They care so much. They’re so positive, and they [have] this work ethic, and they have this real joy that they bring to fans and audiences. So what I love is they’re so good at that.”
Bajaria highlighted the Stranger Things collaboration and hinted there’s more to come for the two companies.
“So when they come to our events, they just are like, ‘We want to make everybody feel [good].’ I go, ‘You’re all so good at this.’ But really, the partnership, again, just wanting to like, continue with this, having the storytelling that touches people and then surprises them and takes them on a journey is — you all do it so incredibly well.
“So I think it has been such a great partnership. And I’m excited for, like, more things. You know, ‘Stranger Things’ was this year, but there’s more things to continue to do together.”
WWE Hoped For Cast Cameos On Stranger Things Edition Of Raw
One glaring omission from the Stranger Things-inspired episode of Raw was an appearance from the cast. While it was reported by Fightful Select that WWE made efforts to secure actors from the show, the plans didn’t come together before airtime.
One name that came up was Saide Sink, who portrayed Max Mayfield on the show. The star was making an appearance in New York, and with Raw being in Brooklyn, there was hope she could be there, but no cameo materialised.
