MVP has revealed that he expects to wrestle his final match sometime in 2027, although he has not officially retired yet. Speaking on the Marking Out Podcast, the 52-year-old admitted his physical abilities and desire to wrestle at a high level have declined with age. MVP said he would still be willing to compete in tag team matches alongside Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin, but would reject an AEW World Championship reign if Tony Khan offered him one as a farewell gesture. The Hurt Syndicate member has not wrestled since October and insists that once he eventually retires, he intends to remain retired.
WWE is reportedly highly interested in signing Brock Rechsteiner once his football career ends. According to Fightful Select, a WWE higher-up placed the likelihood of Rechsteiner receiving an offer at 99.9 percent, with the company having monitored him throughout his college career. Rechsteiner, the son of Scott Steiner and nephew of Rick Steiner, has reportedly expressed interest in eventually joining WWE and would be offered a contract without a tryout.
The 23-year-old is currently with the New Orleans Saints but has been suspended for the first six games of the 2026 NFL season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy. Rechsteiner previously said he intends to pursue wrestling after taking his football career as far as possible.
WWE is sending Elijah Holyfield to AAA to continue his development under The Undertaker. The move was revealed on the August 9 episode of WWE LFG, when Shawn Michaels informed Holyfield that he would be moving into WWE’s AAA system rather than continuing his development primarily in NXT. The 28-year-old, who transitioned from football to professional wrestling in December 2024, has already trained under names including Fit Finlay, Matt Bloom, Johnny Moss and Robbie Brookside. The AAA move will now give Holyfield experience in a different wrestling environment while working with The Undertaker.
