Mr. T has worked alongside some of the biggest names in entertainment, but one WWE legend remains his favourite professional wrestler.
Appearing on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon, Mr. T was asked which wrestler he most enjoyed watching. More than four decades after they first worked together, he named Hulk Hogan.
“Hulk Hogan because we worked together. So it was fun being with him. I mean, nobody else I hadn’t spent time with each other, and so, got to know him with ‘Rocky’ … We met and then we get to doing ‘The A Team’ and we were going places then,” he said.
“He would tell me certain things about wrestling, what to do and whatever. So that part, that became a bonding. So you had to root for him, his style, and he had it. Wow. It was special … he was the man.”
Mr. T Reflects On Relationship With Hulk Hogan
Mr. T and Hogan first met while working on Rocky III, which was released in 1982. Mr. T played Clubber Lang, the primary antagonist and rival of Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa. Hogan played professional wrestler Thunderlips, who faced Rocky in an exhibition match in the film.
The pair later worked together on The A-Team, where Mr. T starred as B.A. Baracus for five seasons. Hogan made guest appearances on two episodes of the television series.
Their partnership eventually extended into professional wrestling. The Rocky III star and Hogan teamed in the main event of the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985, defeating Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff.
The match helped connect WWE with mainstream popular culture during the company’s national expansion, with Mr. T becoming one of the most prominent celebrities involved in the early years of WrestleMania.
More than 40 years later, he still considers Hogan his favourite wrestler, crediting both his ability and the relationship they developed while working together.
