A new report claims the decision to release Trey Miguel came from above Tony Khan.
On January 15th, AEW announced that The Rascalz had signed with the company. The group, which consisted of Trey Miguel, Dezmond Xavier, Myron Reed, and Zach Wentz, was previously part of TNA, but the members all allowed their contracts to expire at the start of 2026 to make the move.
However, when they debuted on the January 18th edition of Collision, Miguel was notable by his absence. It was later reported that the star had been amicably released from his contract, and he posted a statement on Instagram stories telling fans he was taking a break from wrestling.
“Taking a break from wrestling. Please respect my space and don’t tag me in any posts or comments. Go support the Rascalz still.”
Trey Miguel’s AEW Release “Came From Up Above”
Now, on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez has offered some more details on Trey Miguel’s departure, saying that the decision was not taken because of anyone in AEW, and it had come from “way up.”
“No one’s really saying much. Well, some people are saying certain things, but my understanding is whatever it is, it came from up above.
“I know there’s a lot of rumors but it had nothing to do with anybody in AEW talent, anything like that, or Tony (Khan). Something happened from way up and he was released.”
Trey Miguel last wrestled on December 18th, when he joined The Rascalz in defeating Alpha Sig & BDE on REVOLVER’s 2025 Holiday Special.
