The evening has barely started and already CONTRA Unit have made their presence known by hijacking the systems. Since the ominous removal of Mads Krugger, they’ve been even more out of control with their plans to takeover Major League Wrestling. I suspect Krugger set them backwards by becoming World Champion.
Alan Angels vs. Kushida (c) – MLW World Middleweight Championship match
When Kushida joined CONTRA Unit back at Battle Riot Vlll, he also became Middleweight Champion. The last time I saw him, he was a lot more cheerful and colourful, now according to commentary, his demeanour has darkened. If that switch grants him more recognition for his skills, then I don’t mind. Alan Angels wouldn’t agree with me.
I just noticed that Shigeo Okumura has entered the group as well. The new war paint on his face, I thought that was Minoru Suzuki…
To make his point, Alan managed to grab hold of Kushida’s left arm, twisting it around at his mercy. The Champion rolled through only to remain in that predicament. Kushida fought back using his intelligence to avoid getting hit and shoved Angels off the top, so he could collide with apron. Okumura began to stomp away while Kushida held the official’s attention.
Kushida scraped Angels’ fingers against the middle rope, and it looked painful. It reminded me of when I tripped and slid my knee on the gymnasium floor during a basketball game. The agony didn’t hit until I sat down, I think.
Alan got stumped on again, by Kushida this time, but he thought he could avoid the third one by rolling out of the drop zone. The Champion was smart enough to perform a rebound. Alan caught Kushida by the foot and delivered a side kick that impressed the audience. He intended to show out his skills with a wicked German suplex.
Kushida resorted to underhanded tactics like shoving the referee towards Angels’ waist, then use the poor man’s back as a ramp for an elevated kick to Alan. Kushi added to that by striking Alan’s forearm. The fingers that Kushida damaged earlier were used to submit Angels into an armbar he wouldn’t release even after his opponent tapped. A message sent. A message received.
Winner: Kushida
Backstage, Matt Riddle was seen preparing himself for tonight’s match. Alex Hammerstone came out of nowhere holding a pipe, still pissed he was late in signing Killer Kross’ title contract. I was actually amazed by how swift security managed to deescalate the problem. A kind of damage control I’ve never seen. Affective.
Major League has unveiled a new belt called the Southern Crown that will find its place around someone’s waist in a Bunkhouse Stampede in the weeks ahead.
Josh Bishop vs. Matthew Justice – Chicago Street Fight match
Justice walked in with a filled trash can he threw at Bishop’s face prior to the match. Josh retaliated with a superplex. Later on, Bishop performed a sidewalk slam on the bottom of the trash, which Matthew made contact. His face collided with the post, too. Good grief… While Matt was reeling, Josh retrieved a table. Unfortunately for this man, Justice rammed into him, leaving the furniture intact.
The fight moved into the crowd area where Matt dragged Bishop into the merchandise table. He returned to his feet and attempted to inflict more harm towards Justice. Matthew got Josh first with a chair. The man wobbled like a spaghetti. Like a madman, Matt climbed to where Don Gato was sitting and leaped from way up there. He crashed into one of the two table setups, so I believe he missed. Josh was hurt, but he clearly wasn’t affected by that crazy idea.
Despite ALL of that, he went for a cover. It failed, of course. Bishop took it another step further when he performed the Razor’s Edge where Matt flew and annihilated a table. Josh dismantled Justice in his own playground.
Winner: Josh Bishop
Matt Riddle vs. Killer Kross (c) – MLW World Heavyweight Championship match
Throughout the proceedings, the point that Riddle never choked out Kross has been the talk. So, as the battle begun, Matt went for that chokehold early on, but as expected, Killer managed to get out of there. He’s been trying different kinds of choke maneuvers. Disappointing to Riddle, the champ grabbed the bottom rope.
Both men have enjoyed getting in each other’s heads with venture after venture with the choke and the utilization of the fans’ chants against Matt. Kross made a comeback with a nasty kick to Riddle’s face. He looked like he was having a spasm on his way out the ring. Kross went in pursuit.
Matt returned fire with three Brotons on Kross’ abdomen. The challenger used the middle rope to choke Killer with. Now the Champion is on the receiving end. The words “sour” and “bitter” have been associated with Riddle due to how irate he is for losing his title in the first place.
An Exploder suplex to Kross left him on his back for another Broton. Riddle was trying to apply pressure onto Kross’ right arm. They were forced to a vertical base because Killer wouldn’t stay down. It transitioned into a Kamura. Kross overwhelmed Riddle with a suplex. Matt reversed with a Cutter.
Because Kross hadn’t moved, Matt was looking for the Floating Bro. As he flipped into the air, Killer was up and about. He surprised Riddle with a collision in the corner. Matt initiated a beautiful pinning combination, yet Kross stayed in the match. Riddle’s successful Floating Bro shifted towards another chokehold by Killer Kross.
Just as I suspect the match would have finished in Killer’s favour with a much more violent Krossjacket, a self-indulgent Alex Hammerstone ruined everything by disrupting the fight..
Winner: Disqualification by interruption
El jefe Cesar Furan was supposed to be here with an announcement, but he was taken by CONTRA Unit to an undisclosed location. Maybe the same place as where they’re keeping Krugger’s body…
