MJF has reflected on his rivalry with CM Punk, admitting he still holds animosity toward him but also acknowledging the lessons he learned from working together.
Speaking on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, MJF said the feud taught him the difference between being good and being great, even if his personal feelings toward CM Punk have not changed.
“I learned the difference between good and great. That’s what I learned,” he said. “Now, do I like him? I’ll reiterate, no, I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire to put that fire out, but I’m not going to sit here and pretend I didn’t learn from him.”
He explained that greatness comes with a higher standard and less room for error.
“The difference between good and great is this, good means you can get away with slipping up,” he said. “Great means if you mess up in any capacity, if you stumble, if you tremble, if you backpedal, you’re horrible. That’s the curse of being great. I learned that from him. I learned that from Cody.”
What Does MJF Think Of CM Punk’s Current WWE Run?
MJF also addressed CM Punk’s current run in WWE and the comments Punk has made since returning, suggesting there is a contrast between what Punk says now and what he said during his time in AEW.
“I have no idea, because the things that he said in my company do go against the things that he’s saying,” MJF said. “Some people might say that’s hypocritical. That’s not my place. All I know is, since I’ve jumped into pro wrestling, I’ve been saying the same thing since the jump. My tune has not changed.”
