MJF has chosen Shawn Michaels over Bret Hart.
One of the most heated debates in wrestling has always been whether Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels was the best pro wrestler. The two men had a highly personal rivalry in the 1990s that played out both in front of the cameras and behind the scenes.
During that time, despite their differences, they also had many classic matches before their final face-off for the WWF Championship at Survivor Series 1997. That bout ended with the infamous ‘Montreal Screwjob,’ which saw Vince McMahon calling for the bell to be rung early in favour of Michaels ahead of Hart’s departure for WCW.
During his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, MJF gave his thoughts on the two stars, saying that, while Hart is one of the greatest of all time, HBK beat him in most aspects of wrestling.
“He’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time. He’s no Shawn Michaels, but he’s one of the greatest of all-time. I have a reason to pretend Shawn Michaels isn’t better than Bret Hart because he’s the WWE NXT guy, but I’m not going to sit here and do that.
“He was a better talker, he was more athletic in the ring, he was the better wrestler, he was more exciting. He drew you in more. Bret was good at a time period where he was able to get away with being an incredible work rate guy. His promos were good, but they weren’t like, ‘Woah!’”
MJF “Never Understood” Fans Comparing Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels
MJF finished by saying he doesn’t even understand why the two stars are compared since, in his mind, Michaels is easily the better of the two.
“I’m not even talking s**t. He’s a legend, a hall of famer, he’ll go down as one of the all-time greats. When you put him bar for bar against Shawn, I never understood the comparison.”
During the same interview, MJF gave his thoughts on another star, Aleister Black, who he believes only signed with AEW as a stepping stone on his path back to WWE.
