MJF reclaimed the AEW World Championship in brutal fashion at AEW Double or Nothing, ending Darby Allin’s hard-fought title reign and ensuring he would keep his hair in the process.
The high-stakes clash carried major personal history, with Darby Allin putting the AEW World Title on the line against MJF’s hair. The bout followed the chaos of Stadium Stampede and quickly became one of the night’s most physical contests, with both men absorbing significant punishment throughout.
MJF eventually secured the victory after delivering a second-rope tombstone piledriver before following up with a side headlock takeover, a callback to the pair’s rivalry dating back to their independent wrestling days. The pinfall marked the beginning of MJF’s third AEW World Championship reign.
Allin endured several frightening moments during the match. Early on, he attempted a tope but caught his heels on the ropes and crashed awkwardly onto his head. Later, MJF delivered a package piledriver onto the ringside steps, while another dive saw Allin collide with a cameraman after MJF pulled the crew member into his path.
One of the match’s biggest moments came late when Allin hit a Coffin Drop through a table positioned on the stage for a potential head-shaving spot. The daredevil leap came from above the stage scaffolding and lighting rig. After crashing through the table, Allin appeared to strike his head on the platform underneath and was later seen bleeding from the back of his head. Bryan Alvarez noted the cut was likely hardway, as the New York State Athletic Commission does not permit blading.
Kevin Knight Turned Heel Following MJF & Darby Allin’s World Title Bout
Following the match, Darby Allin was stretchered out while MJF added further humiliation by placing his foot on top of him. The situation then took another unexpected turn when Kevin Knight ran to the ring seemingly to chase MJF away, only to suddenly attack Allin with a UFO splash from the top turnbuckle onto the stretcher outside the ring. The apparent heel turn came without explanation, with commentary noting that both men had trained under the late Buddy Wayne.
The defeat brings an end to Allin’s first AEW World Championship reign, which began shortly after Dynasty in April when he captured the title in front of his hometown crowd in Everett, Washington. His 40-day reign included seven successful title defences.
