MJF has revealed he nearly landed a very different role in Happy Gilmore 2 before being personally chosen by Adam Sandler for his part in the film.
Speaking on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, two-time AEW World Champion MJF said he originally auditioned to play an antagonist in Happy Gilmore 2 alongside Becky Lynch’s character, but the film’s star and lead producer, Adam Sandler, had other ideas after seeing his tape.
“I had an audition. I auditioned to be the evil golfer that would have been beside Becky’s character,” MJF said. “Sandler saw it, and I didn’t find this out until later, and he was like, ‘This kid is funny, and he kind of looks like me. Can we try him out to be one of those sons?’ So he specifically, out of God knows how many people, picked me.”
What Moment During The Happy Gilmore 2 Filming Did MJF Say Left Him Starstruck?
MJF also spoke about filming a scene in Happy Gilmore 2 with legendary rapper Eminem, admitting it was one of the few times he felt starstruck.
“I did beat the shit out of Eminem, yeah,” he said. “Marshall Mathers, he rolls deep. He showed up on that movie set with a big crew, probably 10, 15 dudes. They were all, like, easily as big as Luchasaurus. Being next to who was arguably the greatest rapper of all time was one of the only times in my life where I was starstruck.”
Happy Gilmore 2 was released on Netflix on July 25, 2025, and cost $152.5 million to make. The film received a 62% score on Rotten Tomatoes and currently sits at 6.1 on IMDB.
