MJF believes AEW offers the most complete roster in professional wrestling today, and he is not shy about comparing it favourably to the competition.
Speaking on the Shut Up And Wrestle podcast, the AEW World Champion praised the depth and variety of talent within All Elite Wrestling, arguing that the promotion provides fans with a broader range of styles and characters than any other company.
“I do genuinely think Bell to Bell All Elite Wrestling has the best roster, and it also has the most flavors of ice cream,” MJF said. “I’m proud to be a part of the promotion that I’m in currently.”
MJF contrasted AEW’s presentation with what he sees elsewhere in the wrestling industry, suggesting some products have become too similar from top to bottom.
“I’ll watch other products, and everything just feels homogenized and same, same, and copy-paste, and it’s boring,” he said.
The champion compared AEW’s approach to the territorial era of professional wrestling, which featured a wide range of performers and match styles on a single card.
“When I watch my promotion, it reminds me a lot of the territories, in the sense that every match on the card was drastically different, with drastically different characters. That’s why I love territory wrestling, that’s why I love Mid-South.”
MJF acknowledged that not everyone agrees with his assessment, specifically referencing longtime wrestling personality Jim Cornette, who has frequently criticised aspects of AEW’s product.
“I know a guy like Cornette is not a fan of watching my promotion,” MJF said.
MJF Believes He Can Become Wrestling’s Biggest Star Whilst Not Competing In WWE
The conversation also turned to MJF’s own place in the wrestling business. He argued that for many years, wrestlers were conditioned to believe that becoming a top star required succeeding within a single dominant company.
“People have been brainwashed into believing you can only become a top act in professional wrestling because it was monopolized for such a long period of time,” MJF said.
The AEW World Champion added that he wants to prove it is possible to reach the top of the industry outside that system, and believes he is already accomplishing that goal.
“I want to be that guy in the modern era who did that, and, with love and respect to everyone who’s unaware of it, I’ve already done it, and I’m continuing to do it.”
