On the The Adam Friedland Show, MJF related a bizarre story about a phony pilot.
According to MJF, shortly after his father had a heart attack, a man approached him backstage claiming to be a pilot.
“A pilot walks up to me and he goes, ‘Mr. Friedman, I’m going to be flying you back home after the show’s proceedings,’ which, to be fair, I’ve flown on the jet with my boss up to that point anyway. Not to the island, well, to the island, as in Long Island, the only island that matters,” recalled MJF.
MJF told the man he would be ready soon and went to get ready to leave, intending to thank Tony Khan, whom he believed was responsible for the kind gesture.
“He goes, ‘What the f–k are you talking about?’ And I go, ‘The pilot just told me.’ He goes, ‘I didn’t f—–g book you a jet to go back home tonight,’” said MJF.
MJF got EVP QT Marshall, and they confronted the man, demanding he explain who hired him to fly MJF and to produce his pilot’s license.
The man claimed to have been hired by Khan himself.
“QT goes, before the guy leaves, ‘Wait a minute, wait a minute, we’ll let you stay if you show us your pilot’s license.’ And the guy, I s–t you not, does this (pats himself, imitating his search): ‘Ah, I left it at home.’ Get the f–k outta here. So then they f—–g throw the guy in whatever you call the brig or whatever,” laughed MJF.
When asked how the man got backstage, MJF replied: “We still don’t know how he got there. We still don’t know how he got backstage. To be fair, our security team has changed since then but it probably was the building security, not even AEW security’s fault. But they asked this guy, ‘What were you planning on doing?’ And he was honest, he said he was going to f—–g abduct me.”
