Mick Foley has pushed back against a false report claiming he was upset with WWE over the continued use of his past footage, clarifying his position following his recent decision to cut ties with the company.
Earlier this month, Mick Foley confirmed that he would no longer represent WWE and would not renew his Legends contract due to the company’s ongoing association with former U.S. President Donald Trump. While that announcement sparked widespread discussion, Foley made it clear that his decision had nothing to do with how WWE uses his likeness or archived material.
A report circulating online claimed Foley was angry that WWE continued to feature his past matches despite his departure. Foley directly addressed the claim on Instagram, calling it completely untrue.
“STOPPING A LIE,” Foley wrote. “An Instagram page called @itswrestlinglover and a Facebook page called ‘Wrestling Corner’ have posted a completely false story about me being furious that WWE is continuing to use my wrestling footage. That’s simply a lie. It’s WWE’s footage and I’m very proud of it. End of story.”
Foley also requested that the outlet retract the claim and acknowledge its inaccuracy.
While he has distanced himself from WWE in an official capacity, Foley continues to make public appearances, including convention bookings, and remains active with fans. His decision to step away from the company, he has stated, was rooted in personal principles rather than any dispute over intellectual property or presentation.
Could Mick Foley Leave WWE For AEW?
Mick Foley won’t be eligible to leave WWE for AEW until his Legend’s Deal expires in June 2026, but he could, in theory, head to Tony Khan‘s promotion after his WWE contract expires.
Sean Ross Sapp addressed the situation after speaking to Khan at the AEW Worlds End post-show press conference and said that there is a possibility that Foley could join AEW in an on-screen authority figure, but most likely will not wrestle for them.
