Mick Foley is embracing his new chapter in AEW and says the company’s atmosphere reminds him of some of wrestling’s most exciting eras.
In a video posted on social media, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley reflected on his AEW debut at Double or Nothing and thanked fans for the warm reception. Foley said the response felt like more than nostalgia, adding that he believes fans genuinely feel he can make a meaningful contribution to the promotion. Foley also expressed gratitude for his time in WWE, stressing that his decision to join AEW should not be viewed as criticism of his former employer.
“In no way am I here to throw stones at WWE,” Foley said. “I love the company, I always will. I will always be deeply appreciative of every opportunity they afforded me.”
Mick Foley Praised Tony Khan’s Leadership In AEW
The hardcore wrestling legend then praised AEW President Tony Khan, calling him a passionate, enthusiastic leader whose excitement is evident throughout the company.
“But there’s something unique about seeing the owner of the company just so obviously happy and excited.”
According to Mick Foley, Khan’s approach creates an environment in which wrestlers feel comfortable taking risks and pushing themselves creatively. Foley compared the atmosphere in AEW to the feeling he experienced during WWE’s Attitude Era, when performers were encouraged to take risks in pursuit of memorable moments.
“It just seems like, to me, the AEW wrestlers are out there, and they are playing to win because it is understood that failure is part of the process,” Foley said.
He added that he has seen many wrestlers throughout his career become fearful of making mistakes, but believes AEW’s culture encourages performers to swing for the fences rather than worry about potential setbacks.
