A wrestling legend could soon be appearing in AEW for the first time as the company is reportedly interested in working with Mick Foley later this year.
According to The Takedown on SI, AEW’s interest in Mick Foley is said to be legitimate, although it remains unclear exactly what role the company may have in mind for the WWE Hall of Famer. The report noted that AEW could be considering Foley for a longer-term ambassador or on-screen authority figure role, similar to deals previously held by Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat, though a one-off appearance has also reportedly not been ruled out.
Despite working for nearly every major wrestling promotion during his career, Foley has never appeared inside an AEW ring. Speculation surrounding a possible appearance has increased with AEW currently building toward AEW Double or Nothing on May 24 in Flushing, New York, close to Foley’s Long Island hometown. The event is currently set to feature fellow Long Island native MJF challenging Darby Allin for the AEW World Championship in a Title vs. Hair Match.
One source reportedly told The Takedown they had not directly heard that Foley was scheduled for the event, but would not be surprised if AEW attempted to involve him should a deal be reached.
AEW’s Tony Khan & MJF Have Spoken Publicly About Mick Foley
AEW President Tony Khan has publicly praised Mick Foley in the past, while Foley himself previously revealed that MJF once pitched him a six-week storyline that nearly convinced him to return to wrestling. Speaking previously, MJF confirmed the discussions had taken place.
“Look, he’s talked about it openly,” MJF said. “We sat down, and we had a discussion of what that would look like. It was a very good talk.”
Foley ultimately declined the idea due to concerns related to previous hip and knee replacement surgeries. The report comes with Foley nearing the expiration of his current WWE Legends agreement. Foley stated in December that he would not renew the deal when it expires in June 2026, citing WWE and TKO’s connections to U.S. President Donald Trump as the reason behind his decision.
Mick Foley has not wrestled since 2012, although he has continued making occasional appearances for WWE in the years since retiring from full-time competition.
