Mick Foley says the door remains open for one final match, but stressed that any return to the ring is still a long way from becoming a reality.
The WWE Hall of Famer recently suggested on The Ariel Helwani Show that he would not rule out wrestling again. Speaking to Going Ringside, however, Foley said some fans had taken those comments further than he intended.
“I had this great, 30-minute conversation with Ariel Helwani,” Foley said. “He asked me about the possibility of one more match. I said, ‘Hey, you never know.’ I did say, ‘If the stars are aligned.’ But we have to see how the stars align, and I’d have to be in really good shape and feel like I could have a match that wouldn’t disappoint people.”
Foley said he still has significant work to do physically before considering an in-ring return. While losing 100 pounds and undergoing hip and knee replacement surgeries have greatly improved his mobility, he would need to continue improving his fitness and carefully manage the physical demands of another match.
Mick Foley Stressed That Any Match He Could Potentially Have Would Have To Be Planned To Protect Him Given His History Of Health Issues
The 61-year-old added that any comeback would have to be structured in a way that protects his long-term health, particularly given his history of concussions.
When asked about potential opponents, Mick Foley named AEW star Darby Allin as a dream opponent if he were ever to wrestle again.
“I pointed out to Darby that I am on record as saying he would be a dream opponent,” Foley said. “You never know what the future may bring. I’m down a lot of weight, but my cardio is suspect at best. And I’d still have to lose another 30 pounds just to be in poor condition. So we’ll see if there are some changes in the next year.”
