One of the most influencial Luchadoras from the nineties has died.
Mexican media is reporting that Diana La Cazadora (Alma Corina Gutiérrez Villarreal) has passed. She was 48.
She was hospitalized in July after suffering an acute lung infection and died of the complications.
He daughter confirmed that she passed away over the weekend.
Her name meaning “Diana The Huntress”, she began her career in 1997 and was in semi-retirement since 2008.
She practiced Olympic gymnastics and martial arts from a young age and was trained by Centurión Negro and Carnicero Aguilar.
She told the Platicandig Podcast that her name was in fact a clerical error when a secretary made an error registering her.
She worked most notably for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and Mexican independent promotions.
Interestingly enough, she was also a traffic reporter and presenter for Televisa Monterrey. When reporting on traffic, she rode a motorcycle and was injured, hit by a car once while covering an accident.
Diana’s breakthrough feud was against La Amapola which ended in a hair-versus-hair match. Diana lost and her head was shaved.
In her career, she held the LLF Junior Championship once, the LLF Tag Team Championship with Nikki Roxx and was the Monterrey Woman’s Champion.
Legendary star El Hijo del Santo wrote in his tribute to her: “She was a wrestler from Tamaulipas who for nearly three decades gave her dedication, character and passion to the ring. She has passed away. A woman who was part of a generation of women’s wrestling in Mexico. Our respect and affection go out to her family, colleagues and fans. Rest in peace, Diana La Cazadora.”
