Linda McMahon has opened up about how her long-running connection with Donald Trump moved from WWE storylines to a role inside the United States government.
Speaking during a rare appearance on Going Ringside, the former WWE executive and current U.S. Secretary of Education reflected on her decades-long relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, explaining that their friendship began through WWE long before politics entered the picture.
“It was almost 30 years ago now and we met and he was a big fan of the product of WWE and he came in he was in some of our story lines some of the highest rated storylines,” Linda McMahon said. “We became friends and we’ve been friends ever since and I was honored, it was the honor of a lifetime to serve in his cabinet.”
Trump appeared in several WWE angles during the late 1990s and 2000s, becoming part of some of the company’s most-watched segments. According to McMahon, that working relationship eventually developed into a lasting friendship.

Linda McMahon also recalled the moment she was invited to join the administration following Trump’s election victory.
“Look, it was a call came from Trump Tower after he was the president-elect and I went up to talk to him,” McMahon said. “And he said, ‘Look, I’ve got a novel idea. I want somebody to run the Small Business Administration to actually run a business and actually understands what it’s like for business people who are starting up.’ And he said, ‘I would like for you to consider doing it.’”
McMahon ultimately served as head of the Small Business Administration before later becoming Secretary of Education, noting that her experience helping run WWE played a key role in her appointment.
