Kyle Fletcher is living his dream in AEW, but admits there are times when it can become “overwhelming.”
When Kyle Fletcher signed with AEW in 2023, he was best known as one-half of Aussie Open alongside Mark Davis. The pair quickly made their mark in Ring of Honor, capturing the ROH Tag Team Titles at that year’s Death Before Dishonor and going on to feuds in AEW with Adam Cole & MJF as well as FTR.
However, disaster struck at WrestleDream when Davis suffered a wrist injury during their match against FTR. The injury left Davis out of action for nearly a year, but it proved to be a blessing in disguise for Fletcher.
With his tag team partner out, Fletcher moved into singles competition and soon joined the Don Callis Family. Since then, the Protostar has become one of the fastest-rising stars in AEW, having classic matches against the likes of Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, and Adam Page as well as holding the ROH TV Title and equalling Cody Rhodes’ record with the TNT Championship.
Having recently lost the TNT Title to Mark Briscoe at Full Gear, Kyle Fletcher has become one of the favourites to win the 2025 Continental Classic, and has already scored a major win over Okada in his first bout of the tournament.
Kyle Fletcher Is Feeling The Pressure, But He Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way
During an appearance on MAXimum Rock, Kyle Fletcher reflected on his rapid rise to stardom. The star admitted that while he’s living the dream, he’s also putting in the hard work to make it happen.
“Look, it’s a very it’s a hard thing to talk about just because I don’t want to give this false illusion that this is easy and it comes easy to me because it really doesn’t, man. Being 26 years old, this is all new to me and it all still feels very new to me. I’m really just trying to- I’m trying to figure it out as I go, really, right?
“So yeah, it’s been my dream my whole life to be in this spot and I’m so grateful to be in the position I am, but it is really hard. It consumes my entire life. I don’t have time for a social life. I don’t have time for other things. I go home and all I want to do is lay on the couch because I’m exhausted. I’ve been traveling, I’ve been wrestling, I have no sleep, I’ve been eating terribly because there’s nothing to eat after I’ve finished wrestling.
“So it’s like- it’s all these things and it’s all very hard and it becomes very overwhelming when you think about all the pressure that it brings as well as that. But all that is to say, I am living my dream right now. I would not have it any other way. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. I’m not gonna stop working as hard as I’m working because I love it and I love the grind and I love every single part of it.”
Next week on Dynamite, Kyle Fletcher will face his next challenge when he takes on Kevin Knight in the Continental Classic.
