Kris Statlander has gone into detail on what was going through her mind after falling on a bed of nails during AEW Blood & Guts.
On November 12th, Kris Statlander was part of AEW’s first-ever women’s Blood & Guts match. The Women’s World Champion teamed up with Harley Cameron, Jamie Hayter, Mina Shirakawa, Toni Storm, and Willow Nightingale to take on Mercedes Mone, Marina Shafir, Megan Bayne, Julia Hart, Skye Blue, and Thekla inside the infamous double-ring steel cage bout.
The chaotic match saw the women go all out with weapons, bodies, and blood flying everywhere. In the end, Mone’s team came out on top when Storm surrendered to save Shirakawa from an assault by Shafir and Bayne.
“I Am Scarred Up Right Now From It” – Kris Statlander On AEW Blood & Guts Match
One of the many brutal moments from the match saw Marina Shafir landing a kick to Kris Statlander that sent her falling into a bed of nails. Statlander looked back on the moment during an appearance on The Masked Man Show, admitting it was “shocking” to find herself with nails at the back of her head and back.
“I would say I guess probably taking the bed of nails (is my lasting memory from Blood & Guts). I don’t have any bandages. I do have a bunch of scabs and cuts and stuff right now that are healing but, I’ve come out pretty okay.
“Honestly, it was kind of shocking. It was just kind of like, oh, I’m on a bed of nails at this point. I remember I rested my head for a second, and I was like, well, there’s a nail in the back of my head. Let me pick my head up, and then I was like, oh no, here comes Marina (Shafir). Then she walked away and then I tried to relax for a second again, and then I felt a nail in the back of my head and I was like, no, what are you doing? There’s a nail in your head right now.”
When it comes to fans claiming the move might not have felt as bad as it looked, Kris Statlander wanted to set the record straight.
“So it wasn’t the most comfortable thing I’ve ever laid down on. But I remember I saw some people talking about it online and they were being like, ‘Oh, when the nails are that close together, it doesn’t actually puncture the skin.’ I was like, ‘The nails are not that close together.’
“These nails are in my back right now, and that’s why I posted a picture of what my back looked like online because I was like, yes, there is a physics way to make that happen. If it’s really dense, sure, it won’t puncture you as much. But, this is not that. Those nails were in my back. They were in my head. I am scarred up right now from it.”
While none of the women emerged unscathed, Jamie Hayter is reported to have come out worst from Blood & Guts, having suffered from multiple facial and tooth injuries. Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live went as far as to say her teeth are “all messed up” after the bout.
