Kota Ibushi got injured and broke his leg, leaving The Golden Star out for the foreseeable future.
On the recent AEW Collision show, Kota Ibushi wrestled Josh Alexander in the opening match. At one point, both men went up the top turnbuckle, which had Alexander pick up Ibushi into a fireman’s carry for a high-risk maneuver. But something happened during the spot, and both men came crashing down to the floor. Ibushi’s ankle caught the top rope, and he landed awkwardly. As doctors at the ringside went to inspect to assess the damage, referee Bryce Remsburg counted him out.
As reported on other sites, the show was held up as Ibushi was stretchered out to the back, and it was diagnosed later that he had broken his femur. Ibushi returned after a long absence from All Elite Wrestling, and the timing could not have been worse. Already, the company has seen some of its biggest stars be out with injuries, such as Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay, to name a few.
AEW President Tony Khan went to social media and posted the following message:
“We are all very grateful for The Golden Star @ibushi_kota.
In my opinion, he’s one of the greatest wrestlers that I’ve ever seen. He is adored by the AEW locker room + fans worldwide. We wish him the best as he recovers from the leg injury he suffered on #AEWCollision tonight!”

Recently, Ibushi went on the social media platform Instagram, and the images show him in a hospital bed but seemingly in good spirits. He was photographed with flowers and a card from Khan, which read:
“We are all thinking of you and wishing and sending our best wishes for a smooth and speedy recovery.
~Tony Khan”
That prompted Ibushi to reply with the following (as translated by Instagram):
“I can’t believe the president sent me a bouquet of flowers and a letter directly. If they do this, they (sic) won’t quit again!! !!️!!️ I️ cried
I don’t know if it will take a year or a year and a half but I’ll do something. Now I’m in severe pain only working my toes. I was surprised that I felt painful. Mr.Tony Khan.. Just have to keep going👊”
