Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods reportedly have plans to reinvent themselves following their expected move to AEW.
The former WWE stars have spent the majority of the past decade together as members of The New Day, but a new report suggests they could eventually move away from the presentation fans have become accustomed to.
Speaking on the latest edition of Self Made Sessions, Self Made Pro said his personal expectation is that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will initially use something resembling their familiar New Day presentation upon arriving in AEW.
However, he stressed that this portion was speculation rather than something he had been specifically told.
“My gut feeling—this part is an assumption. My gut feeling is that when they debut in AEW, they will do something that closely resembles the New Day that we are familiar with, right?”
When it comes to their longer-term future, Self Made Pro said he had been given the impression that Kingston and Woods want to reinvent themselves and experiment with ideas they were unable to pursue in WWE.
“But long term, I’ve been given the implication and impression that they want to try something that they haven’t been able to and basically reinvent themselves.”
According to the report, Kingston and Woods had several ideas for different presentations during their WWE run that ultimately never made it to television.
Self Made Pro also claimed that the pair were invested in making The New Day’s heel turn work, but realised relatively early that the direction was not succeeding as they had hoped.
“I know that the New Day really wanted their heel turn to work and they knew pretty early on that it was not working. And I know that they have a number of ideas of things that they wanted to try and presentations that they wanted to do that they never got to. I’ve been given the impression that they have a new presentation that they want to test in AEW.”
No details were provided regarding what their potential new characters or presentation could involve.
Self Made Pro speculated that AEW could capitalise on the initial nostalgia surrounding Kingston and Woods before eventually turning them heel several months into their run. However, he again made clear that this was his prediction rather than information provided by a source.
Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods Reportedly Have Opponents In Mind For A Potential AEW Debut
The report also suggested that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods already have potential opponents in mind for their AEW run.
“I also was given the impression that there’s some guys that they already have on their list of people that they want to work with.”
Self Made Pro previously reported in July that AEW had already held creative discussions regarding how Kingston and Woods could be used once they joined the company.
Neither Kingston nor Woods has publicly revealed what direction they intend to take in AEW, and their reported new presentation remains under wraps.
However, if the latest report proves accurate, the longtime partners could eventually use their post-WWE careers as an opportunity to explore creative ideas they were unable to pursue as The New Day.
