WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has spoken about why he didn’t wrestle CM Punk in 2011, despite a feud seemingly being set up at the time.
Kevin Nash says a planned feud with CM Punk in 2011 was scrapped after comments Punk made off script angered Triple H. Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Nash reflected on the angle, which saw him cost Punk the WWE Championship and seemingly set up a singles match between the two. However, the bout never materialised, with both men instead entering programmes with Triple H.
“When I was supposed to wrestle CM Punk after I cost him the belt, he said something that p***ed off Paul,” Nash said. “Something with him and Stephanie, and it wasn’t on script, and it p***ed Paul off. And Paul came back and basically said, ‘You’re not wrestling Punk, I am. I’m beating that motherf***er.’ Like, he was that hot.”
Nash said he understood the reaction, noting that Triple H was never one to back down from a confrontation.
“Basically like, ‘Oh, okay. Kliq rules.’ Like, ‘You want to pull them out and measure them? Here we go,’”
Nash said, before adding that the relationship between the two has since improved following Punk’s return to WWE.
“But I know how much Paul cares for him now… and what it took to bring him back and everything that happened, and Paul to trust Phil with everything he’s done, and vice versa for each other and their relationship.”
Nash also suggested that business often mends personal issues in professional wrestling.
“When you’ve got to make money and make music together, how quick that dissolves,” he said.
The original storyline in 2011 instead led to Triple H facing both Nash and Punk in separate matches, bringing an abrupt end to the teased rivalry between the two former champions.
When Was Kevin Nash’s Last Match?
Kevin Nash last wrestled for the independent promotion Big Time Wrestling on August 10, 2018, where he won a Gauntlet Match to capture the BTW Heavyweight Championship.
Nash’s last WWE match was the 2014 Royal Rumble, where he entered at number 14 and eliminated Jack Swagger before being eliminated by Roman Reigns. Nash only lasted 36 seconds in the 2014 Rumble.
