Kevin Nash believes his infamous quadriceps injury cost WWE the opportunity to finally run a storyline involving the full Kliq.
Speaking on Kliq This, Kevin Nash reflected on the injury’s timing and revealed an opportunity to bring himself, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H together for what he described as a potential “Kliq angle.”
“That fu**ed me up, because we got Shawn,” Nash said. “We could have maybe done something and gotten Paul to get involved with us, to where that would have been like the Kliq angle. Like finally do the Kliq angle.”
Michaels had returned to WWE following several years away from the ring, while Nash and Scott Hall were also back with the company and Triple H was one of its leading stars. However, Nash suffered a torn quad shortly after returning from a torn biceps injury, ending any possibility of the idea developing further.
“But I fu**ed that up when I blew my leg out, because Shawn was back,” he said. “Shawn was back in the mix. So, oh well.”
Kevin Nash Reflects On Infamous Quad Injury
Kevin Nash revealed the injury happened on his first night back after his previous setback, with the former WWE Champion returning three weeks early.
“This is my first thing I’ve done coming back, and I’m coming back three weeks early,” Nash said. “And I remember looking at Vince and stuff and saying, doing this kind of s*** when people aren’t cleared and ain’t been in the ring is exactly how people get hurt.”
When co-host Sean Oliver suggested Nash had ultimately proved his point, he disagreed and instead questioned why he had agreed to return when he already had concerns.
“It wasn’t to make a point. It was just one of those things,” Nash said. “Why, if you were that sure that it was that bad of an idea in your heart, why did you still do it?”
Nash also recalled how his wife had learned to tell the difference between him simply being hurt during a match and suffering a legitimate injury. After his brother-in-law called her following the quad tear, she initially believed Nash was fine, but received another call minutes later.
Nash shared another detail from the night, explaining that Disco Inferno had to retrieve his wrestling gear from his home and arrange a same-day Delta flight to the building.
“Disco did great, except he didn’t pack one of the knee sleeves,” Nash said.
Kevin Nash also discussed WWE’s approach to paying injured wrestlers at the time, claiming talent received their full pay for six months before payments stopped until they returned.
“You were paid full 100 percent for six months, and then when you returned is when you got paid,” he said. “I went nine months and a week before I showed up on TV, and I got every check.”
