Kenny Omega is set to return to singles action next week as he continues his push back into the AEW World title picture.
AEW confirmed that Kenny Omega will face fellow Canadian Josh Alexander on the upcoming episode of Dynamite, marking the first time the two have ever wrestled one-on-one. While they have shared the ring in multi-man situations and stood across from one another in recent faction clashes, Wednesday’s events put their rivalry front and centre.
Omega appeared on Dynamite following “Hangman” Adam Page’s victory over Bryan Keith, joining Page in staking his claim for a future shot at MJF’s World title. Swerve Strickland then made his way to the ring with the same objective, leading to a tense confrontation between the three top contenders that hinted at bigger battles to come.
The moment escalated when Don Callis and members of his entourage interrupted, reigniting tensions between Omega and his former mentor. Callis’ verbal provocation opened the door for Alexander to be announced as Omega’s next opponent, with Dynamite providing the first step on Omega’s road back to championship contention.
Kenny Omega’s Last AEW Singles Match
The match also signals an important return for Kenny Omega, who has not wrestled since teaming with the Young Bucks at the December 17 Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite in Manchester. His last singles bout was at All In last July, where he fell to Kazuchika Okada.
Josh Alexander, meanwhile, enters the match looking to rebound after losing a Continental title eliminator to Jon Moxley on New Year’s Smash. Before meeting Omega, he is scheduled to team with El Clon and Kyle Fletcher on Saturday’s Collision against Skyflight.
No other matches have been confirmed for next week’s Dynamite so far.
