Kenny Omega has thanked fans for their support on his way back to the AEW World Championship.
At AEW Dynamite Beach Break, Kenny Omega challenged MJF for the AEW World Championship, with the added stipulation that if he lost, he would never be able to challenge for the title again. However, with some assistance from Will Ospreay, who prevented Friedman from using the Dynamite Diamond Ring, Omega was able to put the champion away with three V-Triggers and a One-Winged Angel to capture the top title in AEW for the second time in his career.
After Dynamite went off the air, Omega grabbed a microphone to address the audience. The Best Bout Machine admitted that his path to the top wasn’t easy, but it helped to have the support of his family, friends, and fans.
“There’s an old saying, that if anyone could be a professional wrestler, if anybody could be a champion so easily, then heck, probably everyone would do it. But the truth is, none of this came easy. I could never have done it without the support of the people who are my friends, my family who could have at any point kicked me out of my house and forced me to follow a different dream. But I always had the support, not just of my friends, not just of my family, but my inherited family, and that means each and every one of you.”
While holding MJF’s custom version of the title, Omega said that holding what it represented “means the world” to him, and promised that it would take someone special to take it from him.
“Now, I can’t lie, holding this belt just doesn’t quite seem proper. But holding what it represents, that being the AEW World Championship, now that means the world. So, from now until someone’s good enough, someone’s willing to sacrifice enough, someone’s willing to push hard enough, this right here is going to stay around my waist, I can promise you that. I may be more near the end than I am the beginning of this journey, but what counts is that you finish hard and you finish the race. No matter how hard everything is, you finish the race!”
Kenny Omega Says MJF Set A Good Example As AEW World Champion
Kenny Omega finished by complimenting MJF, who he said went above and beyond as champion, but said his reign would be one the Salt of the Earth would be jealous of.
“That being said, MJF, I will give you credit. You never had to take this match, you never had to defend the belt as much as you did, you never had to show up every single week, but you did. As far as I’m concerned, that sets a good example. MJF, not only will I be the best champion I can be, but I’ll be a champion that even you are jealous of.”
With his victory, Kenny Omega is set for a blockbuster All In London main event where he is set to defend the gold against Will Ospreay.
