Kazuchika Okada’s planned AEW World Championship match against Darby Allin has reportedly been cancelled due to a legitimate personal matter.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio, Kazuchika Okada returned to Japan to deal with family business, with the situation said to be entirely legitimate rather than part of an on-screen storyline.
“All I know is that it was actually going to be Okada and Darby,” Alvarez stated. “This was not an angle. He did legitimately have to go back to Japan for some family business.”
AEW also acknowledged Okada’s absence during Collision, officially citing family business as the reason for his return to Japan.
Darby Allin’s AEW World Title Match Plans Changed Following Kazuchika Okada’s Return To Japan
The match had originally been planned as Darby Allin’s next AEW World Championship defence, but the company shifted its focus further toward the developing title program involving MJF, who has continued pursuing another championship opportunity.
With Okada unavailable, Allin is now scheduled to defend the AEW World Championship against Konosuke Takeshita on this Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite.
