Kane has responded to Mick Foley’s decision to part ways with WWE.
Foley recently announced that he would no longer represent WWE in any capacity due to the company’s ties to Donald Trump. Writing on Facebook, the WWE Hall of Famer said he would not renew his Legends contract when it expires in 2026, effectively ending his association with the company.
Speaking during an appearance on Newsmax, Glenn Jacobs, the man behind the Kane character and current mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, addressed Foley’s decision and the political differences between the two longtime colleagues.
Jacobs said Foley’s stance did not come as a surprise, noting that the two have discussed politics in the past and have always managed to keep those conversations civil.
“I know where Mick is at politically and we’ve had our discussions about politics,” Jacobs said. “We’ve always been able to keep them civil, and I wish that could happen more on public platforms altogether.”
While making it clear that he disagrees with Foley’s decision, Jacobs stressed that he respects Foley’s right to express his views.
“One thing is we live in a country where we are free to disagree about things,” he said. “I think Mick is wrong, but nevertheless, he’s entitled to his opinion. I will defend his right to say that, even if I do think he’s wrong. That’s the beauty of America.”
Jacobs added that he hopes similar civil disagreement can exist more broadly, not just within wrestling.
When Did Kane Become Mayor Of Knox County?
Kane was elected Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, in 2018. Running as a Republican, Jacobs won the general election in August of that year and officially took office on September 1, 2018.
Since leaving full-time wrestling, Jacobs has served multiple terms as mayor, balancing his political career with occasional appearances connected to WWE. His election marked one of the most high-profile transitions from professional wrestling into public office.
