Jon Moxley is impressed by the mindset of one of his fellow Death Riders.
Jon Moxley’s Death Riders faction has helped several AEW stars gain more exposure in the promotion. Arguably, the biggest beneficiary has been Marina Shafir. The former MMA star first joined the company in 2021, but it wasn’t until she began accompanying Moxley to the ring and aiding him in his matches that she began to make her mark with the fans.
At Revolution on March 15th, Shafir will take on Toni Storm in her first singles match on an AEW pay-per-view. During an interview with TV Insider, Moxley spoke about the match, and the effort it took Shafir to reach this point in her career.
“It’s really something to have earned a match like that as Marina has the hard way. By just sheer dirt under your fingernails, elbow grease effort over the last 18 months or so. I don’t think there is anyone maybe in wrestling that has the disciplined approach like her. She is a real athlete and treats this like a professional athlete.”
Moxley went on to praise that discipline, saying it provides him with motiviation as well.
“The way she trains and approaches everything. She has come in with a complete student mindset every single day. We learn so much from her because she has so much knowledge. It’s a real melting pot of ideas on our team. It also motivates me like a motherfucker and gives me a kick in the ass. If she gets there early to train, I’ll be there early to train. I have to keep up with her. She is a Mustang, so Toni Storm is in for a hell of a ride on Sunday.”
Jon Moxley Wants To Master Pro Wrestling
Recently, Jon Moxley explained how he strives for continual improvement by “chasing mastery” of pro wrestling. The star says it’s an unachievable goal in reality, as if he ever thinks he’s figured everything out, “the game’s going to evolve.” At that point, he would have more to learn and the cycle would continue.
Ultimately, for Moxley, it’s all about “the person you become” when chasing mastery, rather than actually getting to that point.
