It has been reported that John Cena‘s recent WWE Intercontinental Championship win was not originally planned to take place on Monday’s episode of Raw.
Speaking about the plans for the upcoming Survivor Series pay-per-view in the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about how WWE is no longer planning to have Dominik Mysterio face his father, Rey Mysterio, in Rey’s hometown of San Diego, California, for Survivor Series on November 29. Meltzer said:
“Rey and Dominik are not wrestling in San Diego, so I did find that out too”
Meltzer then said that the plan might be to go back to what WWE had planned to do on the PPV originally, and that is to have Dominik vs. Cena take place, as apparently, the original plan for the Intercontinental Title switch was for it to happen at Survivor Series. Meltzer stated:
“I don’t know if that means Cena and Dom is still on or they’re going in a different direction to where they were going, because the Cena and Dom title change was going to be in San Diego originally, not in Boston.”
When Did John Cena Win The WWE Intercontinental Championship?
John Cena won the WWE IC Title on the November 10, 2025, episode of Monday Night Raw by defeating Dominik Mysterio after he was ordered by Triple H to put the title on the line after he had interrupted Cena’s opening segment on the show, introducing the “Last Time is Now” tournament. Cena’s IC Title win made him a WWE Grand Slam Champion 21 years after capturing his first title in the company.
