It has been reported that John Cena‘s retirement could cause WWE to take a massive financial hit.
A new report suggests WWE could face a significant financial impact following John Cena’s in-ring retirement at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Sports finance expert Dr Rob Wilson spoke with Vegas Insider about Cena’s retirement and its wider business implications. According to Wilson, Cena is currently valued at around $80 million, built through his WWE career, acting work and endorsement deals. A full-time shift back to Hollywood could see that figure rise substantially in the coming years.
“John Cena is currently worth around $80 million, primarily through WWE earnings, acting roles and brand partnerships,” Wilson said. “A full shift into Hollywood should push that towards $120 to $150 million over the longer term if he continues securing franchise or streaming projects. He will not match The Rock’s commercial scale, but his value will grow.”
While Cena’s personal earnings are expected to increase, Wilson believes WWE will feel the loss financially. He estimated that Cena’s absence from active competition could cost the company between $40 million and $70 million annually.
“Cena remains a high-impact performer for peak events such as major international tours and premium live shows,” Wilson said. “His absence from regular competition likely reduces WWE’s revenue upside by roughly $40 to $70 million per year, although his ambassador role helps retain some brand influence.”
Cena wrestled his final match on Saturday, losing to Gunther via sleeper hold, closing the curtain on one of the most successful careers in WWE history.
