It has been predicted that John Cena‘s final match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 will break a major pro wrestling record.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed WWE’s current ticket sales strategy and how the company is using the decreased number of house shows to boost ticket sales for TV tapings and pay-per-views. Metlzer said that WWE’s CEO, Nick Khan, stated that by having fewer house shows, it has made the product more scarce, and that has driven up demand for tickets to TV and pay-per-view events.
Apparently, this strategy has worked very well for the company, which is why they have been able to raise the prices for these events and still sell a good number of tickets. Meltzer also spoke about how John Cena’s farewell tour has also boosted ticket sales for WWE, and that with his tour nearing its end, tickets for the few events that he is booked to appear in will likely sell huge numbers of tickets.
In particular, Meltzer believes that his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 has the potential to set a new pro wrestling arena-sized gate record. Meltzer said:
“This next Monday’s RAW in Boston is obviously going to be really big. The week after, in the Garden, is going to be even bigger. And then the DC show on December 13 is going to be, most likely, the largest arena-sized gate in the history of professional wrestling.”
