John Cena captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship on last night’s episode of Raw.
John Cena and Triple H came out on last night’s episode of Raw in Boston, Massachusetts, to kick off the “Last Time is Now” tournament to determine his final-ever opponent at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
However, Dominik Mysterio interrupted the segment, stating that he is better than Cena was in his prime. Triple H ordered Mysterio to put his Intercontinental Title on the line right then and there against Cena.
The finish of the match saw Mysterio attempt to employ an Eddie Guerrero tactic of distracting the referee, getting a chair, and simulating being hit with the chair before tossing to Cena so that when the ref turned back around, he would disqualify Cena for using an illegal object. But Cena thought quickly, and also lay down on the canvas, which meant when the ref turned around, he was confused as to why both men were on the ground and DQ’d nobody.
In the confusion, Cena hooked Mysterio up for an AA. Still, Mysterio pushed off and struck the referee in the process, incapacitating him as Mysterio grabbed the IC belt and tried to hit Cena with it. Still, Cena ducked and hit an AA, and a second referee came out, but Cena only got a two count.
Mysterio managed to hit a 619 onto Cena, and went for a top rope slpash, but Cena caught Mysterio and rolled through and was able to deliver a final AA to pin Mysterio for the three count and to win the Intercontinental Championship.
This is Cena’s first IC Title win, and he is now a Grand Slam and Triple Crown Champion in WWE.
