The contest will not be a traditional WWE match. Instead, the pair are expected to compete in an athletic challenge designed to test competitors in areas such as strength, speed, endurance and agility.
Lyles, one of the world’s fastest sprinters, won Olympic gold in the 100 metres at the 2024 Paris Games, while Cena remains renowned for his strength and conditioning since retiring from professional wrestling.
The Fanatics Games will feature athletes, celebrities, content creators and fans competing in a series of physical challenges for a share of a substantial prize pool.
Rhea Ripley Was Also Planned To Represent WWE Alongside John Cena At The Fanatics Games Before Her Injury
The report also noted that Rhea Ripley had originally been scheduled to compete against former NFL star Rob Gronkowski. Those plans were reportedly scrapped following Ripley’s recent injury, although she is still expected to appear throughout the weekend for autograph signings, photo opportunities and other fan events.
